You win when a set number (usually 8) or more of the same symbol appear anywhere on screen, regardless of position. Gates of Olympus and Sweet Bonanza are well-known examples.
As in Gates of Olympus and Sweet Bonanza, it is often combined with tumbles, so winning symbols disappear and chain wins can follow.
